Abstract
The waste management policy in Yogyakarta has encouraged some local residents in 2nd hamlet of Pakualaman urban village to conduct more effective waste management. So far, the waste management has been done regularly, however the consistent separation has not been implemented yet. This happends because the waste has actually been sorted but the disposal is still mixed between the organic and the non-organic waste. Based on these situations, the community service team will provide the assistance in waste management program by sorting organic and non-organic waste. The method of the community service that will be carried out in this group is by giving a community empowerment assistance. The assistance is done so that the waste can become more useful. This waste can be used as the fertilizer or other things that are more beneficial to the community with a strategic mindset and perspective of the community groups to be independent. The process of giving the assistance for waste management is done by providing training on waste management, or management of waste banks to these community groups. From the results of mentoring and training, the mindset and perspective of the community about waste has changed. The waste is not just thrown away, but waste is also useful. Nonorganik waste can make the environment cleaner and can increase the income through the waste bank. On the other hand, organic waste can be used as fertilizer for plants to fulfill their daily needs. Moreover, if there is an excess for the fertilizer production, it can be sold, too. So, non-organic and organic waste can increase the income and provide the welfare of the community.
