Abstract
Dementia is a major global health problem among older individuals. According to the World Health Organization, currently, more than 55 million people have dementia, and about 10 million new cases arise every year. Those with dementia often encounter difficulties in communicating their needs to others. Therefore, effective communication with individuals who have dementia requires special skills. To enhance public capacity, a national webinar was conducted on Saturday, January 14, 2023, featuring two sessions, six topics, and six speakers from nursing and public health backgrounds. The event drew hundreds of participants from various locations across Indonesia, spanning from the western to the eastern part of the country. An analysis of the 207 participants who completed the questionnaire showed that the knowledge levels before and after the webinar was increasing, although not high regarding communication skills with persons with dementia. Taking into account factors that influence the quality of distance-learning and ensuring the continued visibility of this issue in the public sphere through alternative methods other than a large-scale initiative like webinar are necessary to further improve public awareness.
